Description

Master the art of making stripped pulled donuts at home with this easy-to-follow recipe that yields perfectly airy, golden treats every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup warm milk (110°F)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 cups vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast by combining warm milk, 1 tsp sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Make a well in the dry ingredients and add yeast mixture, butter, eggs, and vanilla. Mix to form a shaggy dough.
  4. Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and rise in warm place for 1 hour or until doubled.
  6. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into donuts. Place on parchment-lined trays with space between.
  7. Cover and let rise another 30 minutes until puffy.
  8. Heat oil to 350°F. Fry donuts 1-2 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  9. Use a knife to cut 3 slits halfway through each donut and gently pull to create the stripped look.
  10. Mix glaze ingredients and dip slightly cooled donuts. Drizzle glaze lines across pulled sections. Let set.

Notes

Store unglazed donuts in the freezer up to 3 months. Substitute with whole wheat flour, bake instead of fry, or use stevia for healthier options.
